GENDER EQUALITY: HOW TO ACHIEVE IT IN THE MANAGEMENT OF COMPANIES
The online workshop “Improving the gender balance in Boards: cooperatives’ actions and opportunities”, was organized by Cooperatives Europe as part of the project “Gender Equality Lighthouses”. The event was attended by Marta Kandyba, Chairman of the Board of the Union of Consumer Societies of Volyn Region.
Representatives of the European Commission and cooperatives discussed the critical issue of gender balance in the governing bodies of cooperatives, European policies that affect gender balance, and shared best practices in Europe.
For Western European countries, the issue of gender equality has always been important and determines the level of tolerance and equality between members of society. There is an EU strategy for strengthening gender equality for 2020-2025, which defines its political goals and actions aimed at achieving progress towards a gender-equal Europe by 2025.
In the same context, a Directive on gender balance among CEOs of large companies was developed. The Directive sets out effective measures to achieve this.
Cooperative organizations in Europe, even small and medium-sized ones, should also join the gender balance among the heads of companies and enterprises. They need to understand how it is achieved.
At the workshop, in focus groups, representatives of Cooperatives Europe, whose organizations have established gender balance, shared their experience, looked for common solutions on how to make this process effective and efficient in the future.
